The 19th episode of the Left of Lansing podcast is posted!
This week’s guest is former Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer.
During his tenure from 1995-2013, Mr. Brewer helped lead Democrats to major electoral victories, including the governorship in 2002, and the Democrats taking over the state House in 2006.
Please recall, this was at a time when right-wing conservatism held major sway not just in Michigan, but in the country. Well, I guess right-wing ideologies still enjoy large swaths of popularity in parts of the country.
Mr. Brewer and I discuss a number of topics, including the direction of the Michigan Democratic Party, fighting back against the Michigan right-wing’s voter disenfranchisement schemes, Governor Whitmer’s budget plan to fix Michigan, and why we progressives must remain vigilant despite last year’s electoral success.
I praise Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib for leading the fight against the Trump Regime’s disgusting detention center conditions on the border. But while some Democrats are shining a light on one of the most despicable human rights violations in history, some aren’t feeling the urgency of this crisis. And that’s a problem the Democratic Party is having at this perilous time.
I also echo Mr. Brewer’s call to remain active and engaged in our election process. The Michigan right-wing despised democracy, which is why they work day and night to erase voting rights.
